Book Review: Timeless Noro Crochet

Mr. Eisaku founded Noro Yarns in 1980. Mr. Noro grew up in an area of Japan that has great unspoiled nature where he gets his inspiration for the colors of Noro. Noro Yarns come from certified organic farms from around the world.

Have you ever found a yarn that speaks to you and your not sure why? This for me is Noro, the fibers and colors just draw me in. When you see these yarns worked up and the amazing color combantions that come from one ball you will be in awe.

Timeless Noro Crochet has 25 crochet garments, accessories, and more, over 104 pages. The collection in this book has several new and exclusive designs.  Exclusive designs are from popular designs in previous Noro magazines and books.

I love the blending of solid and tonal yarns along with different weights of yarns to become these classic designs, for example, the Reversible Cowl, below right, combines Noro Silk Garden a #3 weight with Noro Silk Garden Solo a #4 weight , both are a blend of silk, mohair, and wool, giving the piece pops of color and great texture.

There is something for every crocheter in these pages from 1 skein mitts to nesting baskets for the home or gifting. If you are a motif fan like I am, there are 6 patterns made with motifs, three are below, and a Broomstick Lace Shawl using the broomstick technique. This shawl has great step-outs to help you along on your broomstick lace journey.

Many Noro Yarns have generous yardage as evidenced by 7 one and two skein projects in this book. Shoreline Mitts, Pacifica Poncho, Shifting Shells, Bobbled Hat, Nesting Bowls, Kernels Hat, Crochet Vest.

The Pineapple Capelet would be perfect to wear as the hostess sharing the souothern spirit of hospitality which the pineapple represents. If you are a fan of Jenny King Designs, she has several patterns in Timeless Noro Crochet. For those who can’t wear wool there are 7 Noro Yarns that are wool free.

Below is some Noro from my stash, look how the motifs work up, those colors are from the same ball. The Worsted #4 Ito has a Tunisian Cable as a possible design.

The book is a soft cover 8 1/2 x 11”, with an easy-to-find project index in the front, an index, and abbreviations at the back of the book.  The photographs are a work of art themselves. There are charts and schematics throughout the book to guide you through your project.
