Tunisian Crochet Baby Blankets… A Book Review and Giveaway

I have been asked by Sharon to review her new book from Leisure Arts, Tunisian Crochet Baby Blankets.  I am happy to do this, I have admired Sharon’s work for years and I have never gotten the hang of tunisian (until now).

Sharon has written 15 books, 7 of them crochet, Tunisian Baby Blankets is her newest.  She has designed for major yarn companies, has a private line of designs and has been a featured guest on HGTV’s Uncommon Threads.

Tunisian Crcohet Baby Blankets has 8 patterns, 4 EASY and 4 Intermediate. The designs include ripples, bobbles, stranding, cables and more. The directions and General Instructions are clear and easy to follow.  There are some of you that prefer to “see” the instuctions, well good news, there is a wonderful bonus with this book, Leisure Arts offers video tutorials on the patterns in Tunisian Crochet Baby Blankets.  Take a peek here.

I chose to work up some swatches of the blankets from the EASY patterns in the book with extra Caron Simply Soft I had around, using a K tunisian hook, yes I had to buy one because I have never done tunisian before.

Above is Purple Garden,
This is my very first tunisian swatch using the same stitch from Purple Garden.  The directions and stitch instructions in the back made it so easy.
Above is Color Waves from the book.  I am a big fan of chevrons.
Below is my swatch, I love the detail of tunisian chevrons and the tightness of the ripple. As you can see my stitches and confidence getting better.
This is Basket Weave Blocks, love the monkey.
I started my swatch with regular sc rows, then did several rows of tunisian knit stitch, followed by tunisian purl.  I then worked the blocks. Still getting better.

This last picture is of Bright Strands one of the four intermediate designs.
I’m not there yet, but I will be.
Tunisian Crochet Baby Blankets is available through Amazon.
This has been a great experience expanding my crochet skills, who says you can’t learn new techniques. Thanks Sharon and Leisure Arts for making it easy.
I highly recommend this book for beginners and experienced as well.  What I love about the blankets is if you make them a little larger they are all perfect as a throw for yourself.
Be sure to enter the giveaway below to win a copy of Tunisian Crochet Baby Blankets.
If you were wondering about Sharon’s other books, they are travel books. One of these books is Pennsylvania Snacks: A Guide to Food Factory Tours.  What could be better than  touring Hershey and crocheting…..
